Wow! What a week it's been. I've been potty training my 20 month old (her choice, not mine). We just took in a cat that needed a home, and that lovely cold bug has reached our house (again). Needless to say, not much writing has been going on around here. That's okay though becasue I'm optimistic about meeting my writing goals next week.
I was thinking about doing NaNoWriMo so that I could finish writing Existence by the end of November, but I've realized that just isn't possible for this book. So much research is required for the places the character visits in time and around the world that I couldn't possibly crank out 2,300 words a day (I don't write on the weekends) unless I had a good five hour chunk, which I don't. But I still hope to be encouraged by everyone who is participating and I wish you all luck!
Onto some good news, I passed 400 followers! Wahoo! I've been trying to follow everyone back but some of you don't have your blog listed on your profile :( So I haven't followed you please leave your blog address below becasue I would LOVE to visit!
Since I want to know you all better I thought I would ask, what is your favorite type of book to READ and what book would you recommend from that genre?

Funny you should ask, since I just posted a book review today. :D
My favorite genre has actually become YA--and more specifically, dystopian YA (or really any YA that takes place in the future, really).
From there, I recommend the obvious top two picks: The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins (if you haven't read it yet...do) and Divergent by Veronica Roth are both fantastic reads.
Good luck with the potty training! My younger was about that same age when she insisted on being potty-trained - I was SO not ready for it, but she was determined, and I've been so glad ever since. I love not having any kids in diapers anymore!
Favorite genre - either YA fantasy or classic mystery, depending on my mood. For the YA, I'd recommend anything by Lloyd Alexander. For mystery, I love Dorothy L Sayers' Lord Peter Wimsey series!
I hope you're feeling better soon!
My main reads are YA Paranormal, Fantasy, and Dystopian. Anything Richelle Mead is a good choice.
I also read Fantasy such as Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson, George R.R. Martin, and Piers Anthony. The first few Xanth novels are pretty good.
Anyways, good luck with the potty training!
@Ava Jae Totally read both of those and LOVED them! Some dystopians on my list are Matched and Crossed and Wither :)
@E Louise Bates I love those kind of books as well! And I've never heard of these. Yay for new recommendations!
@Kathleen Doyle Thank you! I'm actually feeling fine now, but I can't say the same for my kids :) I haven't heard of Richelle Mead. I'll have to check her out!
Okay I read pretty much anything, although I'm a sucker for time travel and parallel universes :-)
This recommendation might be a bit premature because I only read the first five chapters on the authors website but Sommer Leigh of Tell Great Stories just posted an amazing review and what I read was fantastic.
And oh yes, lol the book is Angelfall by Susan Ee.
Lucky you. All my kids potty train REALLY late. I would seriously consider selling my soul to never have to change a diaper again.
I love to read epic fantasy the most. I think. But it's one of those genres where when it is good it is very, very good and when it is bad it is horrid. And I haven't really found much that is really good. But I will recommend the Amber Chronicles (particularly the first series of 5 books starting with Nine Princes in Amber) by Roger Zelazny.
YA and science fiction for me. New stars: Cargon Honour and Privilege and Side Effects. Old favorites: Red Sky at Morning, Catcher in the Rye, and High Fidelity.
Congrats on your followers, Jen! I actually think I'm going to bow out of NaNo this year too because I am too far into my WIP and want to revise that month. I couldn't help it, I had to start early...waiting for November would have been too painful.
By 400 followers, do you mean 400 blog subscribers? That's awesome. Kristen told me the other day she has 1200. Makes my 40 or so seem sorta puny.
Congrats on the 400 followers! That is awesome. Sorry about the cold bug tho. :( That is a bummer. Hope you guys are feeling better soon. I read lots of different genre's. Right now, I would recommend Jolene Perry's NEXT DOOR BOYS. It's a LDS novel, and wonderful.
Congratulations on surpassing 400 followers! I think you should totally do NaNoWriMo. Go for it!
Congrats on 400 followers! We've had that stupid cold bug as well. :( And I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't write on the weekends. :) I'm still deciding on NaNoWriMo... Not sure if I can handle the pressure! lol
Well how about that? I just breached 400 too! Duo awesomeness here!
Since I'm writing YA fantasy with fairytale elements, I've been reading a lot of that genre, and finding it more fun than I would have thought. Any of Shannon Hale's or Jessica Day George books fit the bill nicely. :)
Nanowrite's a challenge no matter what the circumstances and it sounds like you're pretty busy already;)
Congrats on the 400 followers! I made the same decision on Nanowrimo. I'm just not in a place in my writing to do that. I have set a goal though, and I really want to reach it.
I have been trying to read a lot of different genres. I have 3 book ideas, in 3 different categories, so I'm looking around. I've recently started adding contemporary back into my reading. I think it helps keep your characters grounded in reality.
Congrats on the 400 followers! That's great! Hope the potty training goes well also. :)
I really think I love all YA. But it has to have a romance in it for me.
YA, formerly it was fantasy but I hit a glut of one too many copy cat stories and haven't revisited that genre in a while. As for suggestions, Kiersten White. Her Paranormalcy series is wonderful.
Corny as it sounds, I'm going to use NaNoWriMo to help with writing my senior thesis. 25 pages is not 50,000 words but I need time to edit this sucker too so I'll graduate!
Science Fiction is my favorite genre. And if I had to recommend a single book from it (tough question!) then that would be Foundation by Isaac Asimov.
Congratulations on 400+ Followers! :)
I love literary fiction - does that sound snobbish? Hope not. My all time favorite is East of Eden by Steinbeck...
Congrats on 400! And good luck with potty training :)
Kim Karras
What? 20 months old?? I have a 20 month old little girl and she is not...I repeat...not even close to potty training! She also calls everyone and everything "mama!" I am feeling insecure right now!:). And btw, I love contemporary YA right now with a dark twist.
Congrats on the 200 followers!! That's wonderful.
I can't honestly say I have a favorite Genre. It changes depending my mood. Usually I read YA any genre. But I also really like the Fire and Ice series and the Sword of Truth Series which are both fantasy...
I'll pretty much read anything :)
I have a love/hate relationship with research.
Potty training is my LEAST favorite stage of kids growing up - though neither of mine are near driving.
Congrats on the followers :D
I read mostly contemporary, and mostly YA.
My favs?
Speak Halse Anderson
Wintergirls - Halse Anderson
Fixing Delilah by Ockler
The Chosen One - Carol Lynch Williams
I'm sure I could keep you busy for months, but those came to mind right away
