This guilty pleasure has been eating into my reading time, but I don't mind. Why? If you're anything like me, you love the romance in YA novels for it's pure innocence. That anticipation of the first kiss. The sweetness of trying to figure out what love is, and the struggle through those awkward teenage years.
Imagine if there were television shows that could rival such novels? Okay, so there have been a few YA novels made into television shows, but I feel like all of those shows lose the innocence of those teen years and replace it with sex and drugs.
I'm not saying there isn't a part of teenagedom where that stuff exists. I'm just saying I don't particularity enjoy watching or reading about it.
Which brings me back to my guilty pleasure.
Koren television. I saw this show on netflix, I watched one episode, and thought it was the cheesiest dumbest thing ever.
But I couldn't get it out of my head.
The next thing I know, I've watched the entire season only to discover that in Korea they don't do shows for more than one season. To say I'm hooked is an understatement. I've been watching any Korean show I can find on Netflix.
The story lines are so rich without going into the darker side of YA. Plus the main characters are faced with important choices like -

Jin Gook or Song Samdong |

JB or Jin Yoo Jin |

and Cha Chi Soo or Choi Kang Hyuk |
You know what I mean ladies? Anyway, it feels good to get that off my chest. I'll leave you with my favorite song from the series Dream High 2. (It's only 1:29)

Um... that's unusual. I've never even considered what Koreans would watch. I do like the idea of 1 season shows though - I only watched Fringe for one season.
If you enjoy them, watch them! I'm sure NetFlix has an endless supply.
You know what? The clip you posted totally convinced me. If I become a Korean tv series junkie, I'm blaming you. (:
fun! I think you could say it's for 'educational' purposes.
That's funny. I'd noticed recently that hulu has added some korean shows, and I've been considering watching some of them myself. Now I supposed I wil. That song was beautiful.
Also, on a weird and not creepy in any way side note, you were in my dream last night. lol.
Oh, boy. I've been resisting Korean TV though I've heard great things about it. I think you may have pushed me over the edge.
Um...I wont tell anyone then;) My wife was watching Twilight last night and I don't claim to quite get the genre, but you can't deny that lots of people are into it.
Wow! I would've never even thought to check out Korean television! I say if it inspires you, no reason to feel guilty about it-- even if it does cut into reading time. :)
I was NOT expecting this admission! I thought you were going to say Coke Zero, or Real Housewives, or something else bad for you. But this?!?!!! So cute :)
Um, my equivalent guilty K-drama pleasure is "You're Beautiful." You definitely need to check it out. ;)
My guilty pleasure is the TV show Parks and Rec LOL
Koreans? Never tried them. I watched Taiwanese ones a while ago, like Devil by your side and Why, Love, Why. It was fun. :)
That is so cool! You're right, it's very hard to find any clean shows. I may have to take a look!
Sweet! I like the reason you have too - it's hard to find good clean sweetness!
Interesting guilty pleasure... definitely one I haven't heard before. :)
I have too much American TV I like I can't move on to other countries. :)
J.A., you need to go read this parody - you will love it! It's from Sarah Rees Brennan, author of The Demon's Lexicon about her love for K-drama. It's hilarious! http://sarahtales.livejournal.com/189054.html
amazing how different we can be on the outside and how similar we are inside! cool!
I'm thinking I need to get this Netflix thing... haha
HA! Is it in English? Or dubbed over? This is so funny. I might have to check it out just because. LOL.
I've got a friend who LOVES Korean dramas. They sound like a lot of fun! I'm a personal fan of Japanese anime. :)
Oooh nice choices! I'd have a hard time making a decision between any of those boys! Funny, I like watching foreign TV shows over our own. I'm like you, I hate all the gratuitous sex and drugs just because the networks can get away with it. What happened to clean shows based on epic stories and pure talent??? Sheesh.
My guilty pleasure is watching kiddies animated movies - guilty only because I've declared myself a non-movie person...
There's a Korean pop group that I won't name, but I actually like one of their music videos, and even played it once on my smart phone.
I cannot stop chuckling at this. This is why I love following your blog :)
I have never seen one of these but I have never wished I had netflix more than right now.
I like watching Korean movies! TV shows look like fun too.
I started watching for the same reason. I wanted a sweet show I could watch with my daughter. We started with Princess Hours and we were hooked. Now I enjoy watching for the plot lines and character development. I've noticed how well the writers do this, even on the shows that seem super cheesy :-)
It's been fun being able to share my K-drama addiction and infecting others.
