J is for Jinks!

Okay I'm really putting myself out a limb with this letter. Jinks doesn't really describe what this post is about but I found it the most appropriate J word for the occasion.

If you don't know, it's the A-Z Challenge and  I'm talking about blogging tips. Today I want to go over how to make your blog more visible.

Don't "jinks" yourself by making your blog hard to find! (That works, right? Tell me that works.)

Isn't this picture adorable? He hides so well!

I already went into a little detail about this on my Google + post becasue I have my blog connected to G+. But I'm going to say it again:

If your blog is connected to Google Plus, make sure you're posting all of your blog posts on there or I can't find you!

That being said, let's talk about if you don't have your profile linked to Google Plus. Here's an example of a blogger profile that is really confusing. It took me some time to figure out where to go so that I could visit this person's blog:

The blogs followed are intentionally blurred

As you can see they do have a web page on the left hand corner. However, it took me a while to notice.  You can change your blogger profile to have your blog above all of the blogs you follow so that it's the first thing people see.

I've seen loads of profiles that don't even have the link at the sidebar, which makes it impossible to find.

The other problem with this profile is that there's no picture to remind me who this blogger is. The picture really helps in remembering. I would suggest a picture of yourself, but anything to help remember is better than nothing!

When you go to your blogger dashboard you can edit your profile by clicking on the little arrow next to your picture in the top left corner. You can see what everyone else sees and make sure it's user friendly!

My blog and icon are in my profile!
A lot of people with Google+ profiles never list their blogs. And if they aren't posting their blog links there, I can't find them.

Hmmm. I'll have check into synching them. I've finally got that happening on Goodreads.

Great point. I don't have Google Plus, maybe I should look into that. And I think my blogger profile is okay, but I'll go check it right now.

Yes, blogger used to hide the blog in the profile if you weren't careful, but more and more, I see the website posting at the top as a default. Which is good because it was starting to drive me insane. Now i need to go figure out if my profile is stuck in default mode...

It drives me nuts when I can't track down a follower/blog. There are so many people out there that need to come here and read your posts!

Yes! I've run into that same issue a few times. Kind of want to hit my head against the wall :P

It took me a whole to find people's details on Google+ and like you say, it's not always obvious. I purposely haven't connected my blog to Google+, and I hope my link is easily found. In fact, I don't even have my other - fitness - blog shown at all, so I don't confuse anyone. I don't want them to be lectured about fitness when they only wanted a chat about books!

What I hate most is when people have no way posted on their actual blog with which to be able to follow them. That's frustrating!

I must be behind the times, I don't like profiles that are linked to G+ as it can take a while to find a link to a blog post and it might not even be the current one. I'm good with the regular Blogger profile as long as it links to "My web page".

I fixed this when you brought it up to me-- thank you. Hey, have you heard much about Google Authorship? I keep reading that it's a must for authors and freelancers. I tried to poke around but, oh boy, it was confusing to figure out.

Oh my. I didn't realize my profile had no photo - I wonder when it got deleted. Well, you've reminded me to go add a new one, so I learned something today. Thank you!

You are so smart! Seems like the system or process or features change so often that I have trouble keeping up with it all.

I realized my Google profile was hopelessly out of date when someone left a comment on an old blog I hadn't touched in years, in response to having left a comment on hers or taking part in some contest. I had to update it to include the current blog.

Good reminder. Being linked is one of those things that's easy to overlook, especially if you're not technologically savvy.

My blog is included in Google+ and I ensure my latest post is always on top.
