Look at the Time!

Wow, never in the year that I've been blogging have I just not been able to blog for a week. I wish I could say I was typing away at the keyboard and getting my re-write done, but I wasn't. I was just busy. Still am actually.

The funny thing was, I needed that time. Sometimes life just piles up behind you when you are writing, and blogging, and doing social media. I need way more than a week to catch up on life. But it was good to at least get some things done.

Time management is not a strong point in my life (who is an expert in that, really?) but never did I imagine things slipping away from me so abruptly.

Anyway, I'm back now. I'm not going to get as much writing done as I wanted to this month, and I'm not sure how I ever thought I was going to all that writing done considering I'm dead on my feet at my usual writing time of 10pm.

So here's to a fresh slate. I'm starting over this week and I'm saying "I can't do it all, but I'll do what I can".

How do you manage your time?

I don't think the intricacies of time management can be taught. Some aspects, maybe, but a lot has to do with personality type. I'm pretty good at time management and multi-tasking, but The Wife sucks at it. When she's working late, the kids are in bed at 8 or 8:10. When she's home (like last night), 9:15. Drives me frickin' bonkers.

Oh, it's really good to take some time off and engage with the real world, even if it feels like there is loads to do!

My time management skills are getting a little better, but they still need a lot of work!

breaks are always nice. I took one recently and caught up on some 'life' business.

It's so nice taking time off from blogging. I do tend to miss it though. And time? Oh, man. The past 4 months all I've wanted to do is sleep. I'm sure you're going through the same thing. :P I do write at night though. When I'm feeling up to it. Once this baby is out, I'll be better I swear! :)

It's a juggling act. And with the A to Z Challenge coming up, it's about to get interesting...
Glad you took a break!

My time management is shocking! I usually realise I've been writing too much when one of the kids tells me they don't have any clean school trousers! That's kind of management, isn't it?

Time off is good. Glad you were able to take it.

You have a great attitude! Do what you can, and leave the rest. Sometimes blogging and writing fall by the wayside, but you're a writer. You'll be back. :)

I agree with Emily, great attitude! I have to manage my time differently each day, it seems. Some days one thing will fall by the wayside, other days it's something else. And that's okay! Just gotta keep trying, right?

I love the fresh slate approach... it's how I live my life! LOL.

I kind of work as the mood hits me... writing whenever I can, but trying to keep it balanced with making sure the kids feel loved and etc. Usually I judge how I'm doing time management wise with how good the house looks!

It's important to give the mind a rest. If anyone understands it's fellow bloggers and writers:)

Prioritize what's really important to you. And be firm about it--within reason (because people you love are more important even than our stories). There are ways to cut down on distractions. One that I use at the office, when someone drops by to chat, is to give them a few minutes and then get up and walk toward the door (talking to them). It gets them up out of the chair and they realize they need to move on to other things, too. Actually learned that in a Monty Python business management video staring John Cleeves. lol

I have been taking a break from blogging too. I totally understand what you mean when you say that you need time.

I have to organize my time before the day starts, or it all disappears. It's strange how it works that way!

one answer to your question - badly! I tend to have to get up extra early before work every morning to finish the jobs that spilled over from the day before. Ah well. Maybe one day I can get off the treadmill... or not... I know how you feel!

Ha ha:) I don't manage time well. I overbook myself and then get grouchy when I have no time for myself. If you figure out the secret tell me PLEASE!

I don't really manage time well, but I have been going to a coffee shop to get writing done and there's something about the atmosphere that just helps me get writing done. If only I didn't have to work when I need to be free, but that's life.

I completely understand! You are not alone. In fact, I feel the same way and wish I knew how to manage my time better! I've GOT to figure something out!

It's good to give yourself a break every now and then. It allows us to catch up on our lives and it recharges the writing/blogging batteries.
