Starting a New Story

It's been a crazy couple of months getting ready to send out my last novel EXISTENCE. I have it out to a few agents and publishers and now I'm playing the waiting game.

Waiting is just the best thing in the world, right? I don't know about you guys but I can't just sit still and wait (see this post for further details) so I'm starting a new story. I hope to have it done well before this baby comes at the beginning of September. Needless to say I'm hoping those who bestow muses see fit to give me and extra boost in the next couple of months.

Anyway here's a little blurb about the new story if your interested --

Dakota Russell has never placed a toe outside of the two-thousand square foot prison where her Elders insist she must stay in order to avoid danger. But when a boy is lying unconscious on the other side of the river she gathers her courage to step outside of the safe zone.

She never believed in the old religion about the Puhagant who can wield powers unknown to most modern men, until she discovers that she is one of them. The land she has never left protected her from discovering these powers, but the old magic no longer holds.

To make matters worse, the unconscious boy, Carter, is being hunted by his father for knowing too much about a plot to start the next world war. Armed with the ability to connect and find other people, Dakota and Carter take off on journey to find themselves, and save what remains of the peace between the Untied States and the rest of the world.

So there you have it. It should be fun to write :)

Anyone else playing the waiting game? What are you working on?

P. S. I have chosen the winners of the gift card and critique via random.org. Shallee has won the $10 and Andrea gets the critique. Congrats ladies! I'll be e-mailing you with the details :)

Congrats the winners. And I'll admit that the concept behind that blurb is intriguing.

Smartest thing to do is dive into a new story. Hope you get it done in the next two months!

You're doing exactly what agents and publishers want you to do while querying: writing! I like your premise. Magic is always a win with me.

Your new book sounds amazing! Maybe it's just me, but I think prego imaginations are super active:) Good luck on the waiting game. I hope it turns out with some great results!

Oh, if you're pregnant and querying you're really waiting! That's a little painful :)
The story sounds great! And I admire the fact that you already have such a great summary written up - that means filling in the details will be a cinch, right? If only...
Good luck with the writing and waiting.

I do hear that the best antidote to waiting for agents is writing, so way to go! Sounds like you've got quite a lot mapped out already which is good. It sounds great! And congrats to your winners. :)

That sounds like a very interesting story. Good luck with the queries and such. Waiting is hard, but in the end, when you finally get what you've been dreaming about, it's all worth it.

I have been waiting approximately 5 weeks and 9 days, but who's counting, right? *sheepish grin*

I am working on the sequel to that book as well as doing research to a totally unrelated idea. I may wait to write anything on it until NanoWriMo in November though. We'll see.

So glad to meet you and look forward to seeing what you come up with the for WHAT IF? blogfest!

New follower!

Getting it done before your baby comes sounds ambitious but I'm wishing you the best. I'm wrapping up an old story and just about ready to start a new one. Those are both exciting times. Yeah, waiting is not.

That sounds really really good! :) Good luck with it!

The waiting game is the hardest part. Best thing to do is get going on a new project while you wait.

Sounds like a great story! I'm with you on the waiting. It really stinks! I'm doing that with a picture book manuscript.

The books sounds amazing! And really writing something new is the best thing to do while waiting.

I was querying, kept writing while doing it. Now I'm ready to start querying another story. So my waiting game really never stopped.
