GUTGAA Meet and Great

It's September which means it's time to gear up to get an agent!

Deana Barnhart

Today is all about making friendships, and there's no better way to do that then to tell a little bit about myself. Luckily Deana has provided questions so I don't have to sit on my soap box and feel like I'm being self centered.

However, there is something about me that needs to be said becasue it defines a large part of my life. That is, I am a wife and mother. I'm going to have child #3, on Thursday. I can't wait!

Onto Deana's questions!

1. Where do you write?  At my desk in the front room of my home.

2. Quick. Go to your writing space, sit down and look to your left. What is the first thing you see? The sliding glass door that leads to the back yard, and subsequently a golf course with a mountain behind it that is just starting to show fall colors.

Ain't it pretty?

3. Favorite time to write? At night after the kids are in bed. That hasn't really been possible since I've been pregnant, but I love it when I can. It's so peaceful!

4. Drink of choice while writing? Water.

5. When writing, do you listen to music or do you need complete silence? I like to have my headphones in, it really takes me to another world, but editing often requires silence.

6. What was your inspiration for your latest manuscript and where did you find it? It was on Heather Howland's blog. She posted this gorgeous picture -

And my time travel story just came to life.

7. What's your most valuable writing tip? I don't know that I'm really the person to be giving out  writing advice, but the one thing I have to remind myself about day after day is that it's worth it. That settling isn't an option and the work is what's going to make the dream come true.

That's it for the questions. It's not too late to join, and there will be all kinds of fun abounding! Here's the linky if you're interested.

I did this last year. Looks like the list continues to grow; that's awesome. Good luck with it.

Nice view from your window. Mine overlooks a porch that is becoming a room. It will eventually be moved to another wall, but in the meantime I keep my drapes closed. lol

When are you having that baby, girl?! :) Excited for you! I love that you're writing TT, I have one of those in my back pocket (on my laptop) that I'll get back to someday.

Congratulations on baby #3!!! That's very exciting! You have a great view for your writing corner. I definitely agree with your writing tip. Writing is worth it and so rewarding when a lot of work is put into it.

I think I would like to write at your window! Best wishes.

I love it when a novel idea just blossoms in your head like that!

And so funny that you can't listen to music when you edit--that's when I can listen to all kinds of music! (I can't listen to vocal music while I'm drafting. I just wanna sing!)

Great to get to know you more!

I'm so jealous of your view while writing. It's so much better than mine which consists of walls.

That is a stunning photo, I can see exactly how it would inspire a story.

So much fun seeing what everyone has to say. I can’t imagine what it would be like to have kids and write, but I’m guessing I’ll be there one day. =) Hope everything goes well when your baby’s born.

Hi! So nice to meet you. :) I was 39 weeks pregnant at this time last year (little one's first birthday is this coming Sunday). It was so hot, I couldn't stand to be near my laptop. So, if you're writing right now, I'm impressed!

I'm also jealous of your beautiful mountain view. I find such inspiration in nature.

Love the view! Good luck with baby #3, enjoy he/she while they are small and sweet, before they start whining and yelling. ;)

Congratulations. I can't believe you are a couple of days away from having another baby. How exciting. I wish you the best. I am making the meet and greet rounds. I love the picture and can see how it inspired a time travel story. Good luck with it and best wishes for your family and your new addition.

I notice that a lot of people need music while writing but silence while editing. I wonder what this says about us?

I hope everything will go well with the baby. It will change your life quite a lot (in many way, most positive though). Good luck.

I'm from GUTGAA too but I'm mostly writing MG and YA. In Germany, I'm already agented.

Didn't you just have a baby or something?! Yet, I see you commenting on all these peoples blogs:) You amaze me. I hope everything went well. Will we get to see pictures? And your view is so gorgeous! I'll never forget those mountains when I took my one visit out to Utah! So lucky!

Great answers. I love the view out your window. It's gorgeous there. I live in southeastern GA and it's so flat and blah. haha. I'm from PA, so I really miss the mountains and the season changes--especially fall. We don't really get that here.

Did you just have a new baby? (I read the comment before this one) Congrats! It's such a beautiful time in your life. Busy and tiring, but amazing. Enjoy it!

Anyway, it's nice "meeting" you and I'm glad I found your blog through GUTGAA. I just started my blog today, but if you could stop by and visit, that would be great!:)

Hello! I'm still making the rounds for the Meet & Greet. I recently drove through southern Indiana for the first time (on the way to Cincinnati and again to Nashville) and was surprised how much the landscape changes from flat to hilly in the southern region. I'm in Chicago area where it's quite flat, but I grew up in Michigan where the landscape changes quite a bit the farther north you go. I would love to drive west sometime.

I like the photo that gave you inspiration. Very cool. I like time travel as well (currently watching Dr. Who) and I think it provides a super cool base for a YA novel. Good luck with GUTGAA and all the pitch polish stuff :)
